Montaż radia Soundstream Reserve WHD14+

At the workshop in Katowice, Sebastian decided to rejuvenate his 2017 Road Glide. Instead of updating the factory 6.5 GT again, he chose the Soundstream Reserve WHD14+

Hello motorcyclists! Anyone who's ever sat behind the controls of a Road Glide knows it's not just a motorcycle—it's a door to freedom. But when the wind roars behind your helmet and the engine purrs underfoot, without a powerful and clear sound, you lose half the fun. That's why, for me, an audio upgrade is an absolute must-have.

In the workshop in Katowice, Sebastian decided to rejuvenate his 2017 Road Glide. Instead of updating the factory 6.5 GT again, he chose Soundstream Reserve WHD14+ – a unit designed specifically for the 2014+ Harley Touring. This is where the story begins about how one swap can turn a motorcycle into a multimedia concert hall.

First impressions – design and ergonomics

Once you remove the original 6.5″ panel, the advantage of WHD14+ is immediately apparent:

  • 7-inch touchscreen – readable even in bright sunlight, with a response as fast as on premium smartphones.
  • Minimalist interface – simple icon layout, large buttons and intuitive menu allow you to control music with one finger, even when wearing thick gloves.
  • Factory fit – the screen fits into the cockpit like an original element, without gaps, the plastic matches the color, the installation is almost invisible.

Installation process – perfection in every detail

I begin installing the WHD14+ by carefully removing the factory radio, taking care to preserve the original components. The next step involves embedding the new unit in the opening, connecting the CAN-bus power supply, RCA cables, and GPS antenna. Configuring the Maestro RR2 module is crucial, as it restores full functionality of the steering wheel buttons—from changing tracks and adjusting the volume to invoking the voice assistant. Finally, I conduct a road test: from Katowice's city streets, through winding roads, to sections of the highway, to ensure that the sound quality remains high even at maximum speed.

Practical assembly – an hour of work and it's ready

The whole operation took less than 60 minutes: old radio – out, WHD14+ – in, SX-165 Neo speakers in their place. Thanks to the factory connectors, there was no need to cut or solder any wires. The bike hit the road that very same afternoon.

The new Soundstream Reserve WHD14+ radio – what is worth knowing about it?

The latest shipment from Soundstream Reserve features the WHD14+ radio, the brand's newest and most affordable offering. If you're looking for a multimedia radio for your Harley, this model is worth taking a closer look at – and in this article, I'll show you exactly what it offers.

Successor to the popular HDHU14+ model

The WHD14+ is the successor to the well-known HDHU14+ model. It also boasts a range of new features, including built-in wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Now you can enjoy easy and convenient connection to your phone without the hassle of cables.

Expanded output options and improved screen readability

The new radio features a completely redesigned RCA output section (5V), which translates to improved signal quality and the ability to connect a subwoofer or additional amplifiers. The display matrix itself is slightly brighter, making it easier to see on sunny days.

One model – many possibilities

An interesting new feature in the WHD14+ is the option of future expansion. The basic harness and control module allow for an upgrade to a higher model (HDHU14 SI), which supports Harley's factory amplifiers and on-board computer. This means you get two radios in one box for the price of one – significant savings and greater flexibility!

Full control over sound and settings

This Soundstream Reserve model also features a built-in 13-slider equalizer, filters (crossovers), balance and fader settings, amplifier turn-on delay for battery life, and precise volume control for individual sources.

Compatibility and waterproofness

You don't have to worry about operation in harsh conditions. The WHD14+ radio is fully weatherproof, proven in years of use. Perfect for riding in the rain or in bright sunlight – exactly what you need for your Harley.

Soundstream Reserve WHD14+ + WHD.UNLOC – the ultimate duo for your Harley

What is the WHD.UNLOC package?

WHD.UNLOC is the official plug-and-play upgrade kit designed exclusively for the WHD14+ model. With this kit, you can easily unloc full integration with Harley’s factory systems — without replacing the entire radio.

What the kit includes

  • Installation cable designed specifically for WHD14+ (does not work with older models).
  • iDatalink MaestroRR2 Module – allows for full integration with your Harley’s CAN-BUS, sensor support, on-board computer and more.
  • USB key with software update, which guarantees compatibility and readiness to operate immediately after installation.

Benefits of using WHD.UNLOC

  • Digital gauge display – up to 10 on the screen, with a choice of over 40 different parameters, e.g. oil, fuel, temperature.
  • Pop-up warnings – notifications about low oil pressure, fuel level or engine temperature.
  • Programming the joystick buttons – customize volume control, source selection, etc.
  • You keep your Boom audio system (original or HD) – no loss of sound quality.
